Frequently Asked Questions

Do I quality for these classes?
Intermediate and Advanced classes are not open to new students, even if they have taken lessons at another studio. We follow the DVIDA syllabus in our group classes, so it is important that a student has a good foundation before moving up a level. If you believe you qualify please contact us to speak with an instructor who can help you determine where you should be placed.
Can I take only the advanced class, and not the intermediate because it doesn’t fit my schedule?
While we do not recommend it, it is possible. Most advanced and intermediate students view these group classes as supplementary to private lessons. Just as many also continue with the beginning group dance classes for practice and reinforcement.

Please speak with your instructor if you are interested in more advanced classes

Do I need to attend every class in the series?
While you do not have to attend every class in the series, you do have to attend most. Since the classes build on each other, it is difficult, but doable, to miss one class but not more. If a student must miss more than one class we suggest taking a private lesson to supplement information missed in class.
How long does it take to progress into an intermediate or advanced class?
It depends on how frequently a student takes lessons. Even for a student taking private lessons or many group classes, it could still take two or three years. This is because there are so many dances to learn. Students will often find themselves advanced in one dance such as Waltz, but a beginner in Bolero.

At DancePlus, our programs are designed to go through the most foundation steps and the most common dances to prepare students for intermediate and advanced group dance classes.

What is taught in the Intermediate and Advanced classes?
These group classes move beyond the six main social dances into other fun dances such as West Coast Swing or Quickstep. Classes are also designed to build upon the most common dances such as Waltz and Chacha by teaching more advanced steps and techniques.

Regardless of the dance, all of our classes follow the DVIDA and ISTD syllabi. Students will be able to progress into Intermediate Bronze, Full Bronze, and even Beginning Silver steps.
